The mission of KidsTLC is to provide opportunities that encourage positive growth and change for children, youth and families while ensuring a safe environment. KidsTLC strives for the preservation and healing of families by providing services, to the extent allowed by their resources, that compliment existing community services while maintaining responsiveness to changing community needs. JCYM founded KidsTLC in 1972 and has continued as a major supporter of the youth campus life and activities for almost 40 years. In addition to supporting and staffing fundraising efforts and collecting much needed items, JCYM members plan hands-on game and craft nights with an emphasis on "home life" atmosphere for the youth ages 6-18. JCYM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The JCYM Scholarship Program was initiated in 2003 with the awarding of four scholarships totaling $2,000. Since that beginning it has steadily grown and in 2012-2013 we awarded $14,000 in scholarships to 14 recipients, including the first Becky Neese Scholarship. Including the latest awards, JCYM has now awarded sixty-five (65) scholarships to recipients coming from the philanthropies we sponsor. An informal survey of the recipients prior to 2012-2013 has shown that, of all recipients contacted, more than 80% have completed their programs of study and are gainfully employed or are still enrolled in classes and continuing their education.
Members and friends continue to support the growth of this program with gifts to the JCYM Scholarship Fund (established in memory of member Dottie Hamlin) honoring special occasions and friendships and with memorial gifts for loved ones. Donations are tax-deductible and are promptly acknowledged. Those being honored or families of those being memorialized are also informed of the caring being expressed for them. For more information please contact us via this website. Or, simply send us your gift via PayPal. Helping others improve their lives through education is a gift that continues giving throughout the years.
Club members serve in mentoring roles for awardees and provide solid support for students as they work toward bettering not only their lives but also their families' lives.
As Marian Edelman Wright said, "Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it." This is the foundation of the JCYM Scholarship Program.
JCYM CHARITABLE GIFT FUND
Mission Statement: "The JCYM Charitable Gift Fund is established to provide a perpetual source of funds to the philanthropies of Johnson County Young Matrons. Specific agencies are designated annually as JCYM philanthropies and may change over time to meet the evolving social service needs of the community."
The JCYM Charitable Gift Fund is a professionally-managed fund which is allocated among stocks, bonds and cash reserves for conservative growth. A special Club committee oversees the Fund and recommends to our membership any disbursements to our philanthropies. JCYM's vision for the Fund is to increase its principal amount to a level that substantially supports our philanthropies.
The JCYM Charitable Gift Fund welcomes bequests and memorials as well as gifts in recognition of special occasions. Donations will allow JCYM to impact and influence our community in future years.
